The roster

Wedding DJs who play everything

Bhangra, Bollywood and Punjabi one hour, house, garage, R&B and hip hop the next, usually in the same night. Open format is the job here, not a tag on a profile. Every Kudos DJ works Asian weddings across the UK and travels for them, and each one reads a floor differently. Tell us the room and we will tell you who fits it.

About Kudos Music

Kudos Music does event design, production and entertainment from an office in Uxbridge, west London, and the DJs are the part of it most couples meet first. We built the name on Asian weddings and that is still where most of the roster lives, though a Saturday is as likely to be a mixed-culture reception, a corporate party or a club booking. The same team that supplies the DJ builds the room around them: sound, lighting and screens, the stage, and the floor printed to your palette.

Everyone here is a resident Kudos DJ rather than a name we sub-contract, and nobody joins the roster on a mixtape. What gets someone on it is what they do at twenty to midnight, when the list you handed over has run out and a third of the room has drifted to the bar. Some of these DJs will pick up a mic and carry the night through the entrances, the speeches and the cake. Others would rather stay behind the decks and let a host do that. We would rather tell you which is which than sell you the same booking twice.

That is the argument for a roster sitting inside a production company rather than an agency. When the DJ, the PA and the lighting all answer to the same crew, nobody spends the afternoon deciding whose problem the dhol is. Book a Kudos DJ on their own and the planning is the same either way: a music call, a written running order and a do-not-play list, before anyone touches a deck.

How to pick one, when they all look good on paper

Every profile here lists genres, and genres are the least useful thing on the page. Most of this roster can play most of it. What actually separates them is what they do when a floor starts to thin at half eleven, and whether they will take a mic and hold a room together or would rather stay behind the decks and let an MC do it.

So the questions worth asking are duller than they sound. How many events are running, and does one DJ cover all of them or does the roster rotate? Nobody reads a floor well on night four having played the previous three. Is there a live act, dhol or a playback singer, and who is responsible for the handover in and out of it? That handover is where most wedding nights lose their momentum, and it is a rehearsal question, not a talent one.

The names people arrive already asking for tend to be the same few. DJ H founded Kudos and hosts as much as he plays. Jas Johal, the other co-founder, works the mic and the room before he works the crossfader. DJ ITCH is the one to ask about if the guest list leans more Ibiza than bhangra, and DJ Kabir if the brief is nineties R&B and hip hop done properly. Ask for any of them by name and we will check the date.

Our honest view: the DJ matters less than the pairing. A brilliant open-format DJ in front of a crowd expecting three hours of bhangra is a bad night for everyone. Tell us the guest list, the languages in the room and roughly when you want it loud, and we will put forward two or three names and say why. If the one you want is booked we say so, rather than sending someone else and hoping. You can see the rooms they have played in the portfolio and on the destination weddings.

Reviews

What couples say about Kudos DJs

Rated 4.9 out of 5 across more than 500 Google reviews. These name the DJ they are about.

We hired DJ H and DJ Chonkx for our wedding in Antalya, Turkey, and they are absolutely the best DJ and MC combo in the business. They read every crowd and kept the floor packed all weekend.

We cannot recommend DJ Chonkx, DJ H, DJ Kabir and DJ Arvee highly enough. From start to finish they smashed every single event at our wedding at the Royal Saray in Bahrain, each one bringing their own incredible energy.

The set up totally blew us away, beyond expectations. The sound, the lighting, everything was perfect, and every one of our guests commented on how incredible the venue looked and sounded. Jas was incredible on the day.

Where Kudos DJs perform

Most weekends are UK weddings, and most of those are within a few hours of the office in Uxbridge: the London hotels, Park Lane and Claridge’s and the Savoy and the Dorchester, then out through the Home Counties to The Grove and the country houses. Further north we are the resident production team at Dallas Burston Polo Club in Warwickshire, an hour and a half up the M40 and a short run from Birmingham Airport. We have built weddings at the Hilton at the NEC too.

Abroad, the DJ travels lighter than the kit does. Lake Como, Tuscany, Bodrum, Marrakech, Dubai, Goa, Bahrain, Nairobi, Vienna: either DJ only, flying out to play on a trusted local supplier’s rig, or with our own sound and lighting shipped out. Every destination on that list is one we have actually played, and each has its own page under wedding DJ by location.

Questions

Good to know

Yes. Kudos Music is a production company as well as a DJ roster, so the same team can bring the PA, the lighting, the stage and the printed dancefloor alongside your DJ, rigged and run by the crew who designed it. You can also book a DJ on their own and leave the technical side to your venue or another supplier. Say which you want when you enquire and the quote comes back that way. We would rather price both and let you cut one than have you discover in the last fortnight that the DJ and the PA are two different phone numbers.
